Every year on Columbus day weekend, we go leaf peeping in either Vermont or New Hampshire. This year we chose Vermont again. For those of you who don't know what leaf peeping is, well, it's when you go look at the fall leaves. This year I thought we had gone at the perfect time for "peak" color, and we did; however, one of the locals told us that just a week ago they had a major rain and wind storm and all the leaves got blown off the trees.....I was NOT happy. But we still had a great time.
We found this great farm last year call "Billings Farm". The kids love it. They have lots of animals to pet and lots of fun things to do. Here we are petting the jersey cows. They were HUGE. And if you weren't careful, you'd get in the way of them peeing. Let me tell you it was like watching a race horse go. Full flood.
My favorite are the sheep. They're just so dang cute. One I'm sure was smiling at us.
They have apples hanging from a tree and you're supposed to bite it without using hands. Kasey was having a hard time. Jordan and I found it extremely funny.
So, we decided to help. All three of us together?......= success!
They have old fashion 19 century yard games. They are all made of wood. No electronics here. We had so much fun. You throw the hoop with these sticks and then catch it. Not as easy as it looks. I had the slight height advantage on Kasey here.
Jordan was getting to close to getting the ring so I had to intercept!!!
Success! Move it Jordan!! I love this picture.
They had apple cider and apple cider donuts to eat.
My sweetie and me.
They had apple coring/peeling, cheese making, corn husking and ice cream making. Scott had to make the face for it to peel. Lol. We peeled and ate a lot!
They have a cider press. They let the kids squeeze their own, then you get to drink it....so yummy!
We found this monkey in the tree. They had rows and rows of apple trees you could pick. We took quite a few home with us. Yummy!
Found this good lookin kid in another tree.
This cow was hilarious. Can you see what he is staring at? Yup, my little monkeys in the tree. The boys kept shaking the tree and the cow kept looking at them. So funny.
There are many covered bridges in Vermont. It's one of my favorite things to find. They're so beautiful.
I love this picture. Before we left, I bought the kids the rainbow loom. For those who haven't heard of it, it's all the craze right now. You can make all sorts of bracelets and other things. This kept my kids occupied the whole ride down and back...and in the mornings when we were getting ready. I caught this moment in the morning of them in their jammies out on the balcony quiet as mice working together.
This year we got a studio apartment. It had a kitchen, balcony and fireplace. Loved it! Great view of the mountains and we could save some $$ by cooking our own breakfast and lunch. Kasey loves taking pictures if you can't tell.
The next day we went to another farm for a corn maze. They had animals to see and touch. We loved the rabbits. They were the biggest rabbits I have ever seen. This one here is small compared to the biggest one there. SO big I couldn't help but laugh.
Jordan has been wanting to do a corn maze for a few years so we did this one. The theme was Gettysburg as you can see. THey had questions and clues to answer and you had to find stations to hole punch your card. We got 6 out of 8 before the kids were ready to get out. I'm claustrophobic so I was starting to get a little "stressed out" in there. Luckily, we have a daddy who is a man made GPS to get us out.
We stayed here for hours. They had a lot of field games for the kids to play and it was a GORGEOUS day out. Daddy and Jordan played this one for quite some time.
Love the mid-air action.
The next day, we took the tram up to the mountain in Killington. We hiked up to the top and it was nothing but clouds. Kind of disappointing but fun none the less. It was windy and freezing up there.
It kind of cleared for a little bit to get this shot but you can't see the color at all.
On the way home, the kids and I wanted to do a little shopping. So we stopped in Quesche Vermont and the kids bought sling shots. What was I thinking? We then hiked down the gorge to a pond where no one was and let it rip.
It was a great weekend to think about nature and the beauty of it all. Great to be alone with my family, having fun and no worries. We love Vermont!
